For the Birds: Belief is the place I am traveling to

Patti Smith says, “live in the world of your world”

Okay.

I will live in the small world of impact, where any two people can create possibility, even for a brief moment, by seeing each other fully.

Okay.

I will live in the green forest of rest, where the body is never not doing good work. No, where bad work is not even possible.

Okay.

I will live at the humming shore of creativity, where you can be foolish or boring or redundant or get things completely wrong and still keep going.

Okay.

I will live in the delicate cloud of expression, where the only thing scarier than being misunderstood is the thought of having no voice in the first place.

Okay.

I will live in the vulnerable cauldron of feeling, where no one is required to police themselves, or pretend that the bright light in their sternum isn’t plugged in.

Okay.

I will live in the fragile world of belief. I will practice believing in safety, I will practice believing in hope, I will practice believing in equitable progress, and I will practice believing in the human capacity for doing good. Not because I reside in such certainties, but because belief is the place I am traveling to.
